"Whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God." (John 3:20-21) Hiding is the older instinct. We leave out the part we are not proud of and keep the answer short when someone asks how we are really doing.

This verse names why. What is done in the dark stays away from the light so it will not be exposed. But the one living in truth walks straight into it.
